DESCRIPTION:Part 1 of a 3-part webinar series on sustainable fashion and textiles. The global fashion industry is a system of production processes creating clothing\, a human need.  To understand how fashion production operates is essential to seeing the scope and complexity of the problems.  In the first of the series of webinars\, we will learn how our clothes are made from the basic fiber to a garment. As we learn about the diverse production stages\, we will identify detrimental behaviors which are negatively affecting the environment and people.  Kelly McDowell \, MA in Social Innovation and Sustainability\, will explore these concepts with knowledge and experience from her past career in fashion production in NYC. Currier\, Faculty Librarian\, Vermont State Colleges \nThis online program is free for VLA College & Special Libraries Section members. Special thanks to VCAL for sponsoring this event. \nRegister now to receive the link with access to a recording if you are not able to attend live. \nArtificial Intelligence\, with its evolving capabilities\, significantly impacts library operations and can enhance the learning experience for students. Teaching students how to ethically and effectively use AI is crucial in today’s educational landscape. By integrating AI as a supportive tool in libraries\, we enhance learning experiences and prepare students for a world increasingly shaped by AI technologies. \nIn this context\, Miranda and Susan will demonstrate how they have used crucial AI functions in their libraries: \n\nAiding in social media content creation through platforms like Canva and ChatGPT.\nStreamlining academic title searches using tools such as Google Scholar and Bing Chat Copilot.\nsummarizing complex information efficiently with tools like PI.AI and GPT-3.\nfacilitating the creation of outlines and lesson plans through platforms like ChatGPT.\n\nOur presenters will also discuss the importance of emphasizing the need for transparency in AI usage\, ensuring students are familiar with the mechanisms\, biases\, and limitations of AI. This knowledge equips students with essential skills for future careers in a world where AI integration is becoming increasingly prevalent.
