The Vermont Department of Libraries seeks a professional cataloger for the position of Technical Services Librarian. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of RDA, MARC, and expertise with classification systems, including Dewey (DDC) and knowledge of, or comfort learning other classification systems such as LC and SuDoc. They will provide consulting for cataloging, learner-centered instruction, and will manage State Library collections in consultation with the Assistant State Librarian for Information & Access. This job calls for a well-organized, diplomatic, and insightful person who will use their professional skills and knowledge to advance the mission of VTLIB.

Major duties include performing all original cataloging for the State Library collections, copy cataloging, classification using Dewey Decimal System (DDC), and other systems for government documents; designing and teaching basic and advanced cataloging classes as part of the VTLIB continuing education program; answering cataloging questions from librarians and staff both internally and externally; managing cataloging in the VTLIB ILS; and working with Information & Access staff to maximize discoverability of materials through the CLOVER interlibrary loan system.

The Technical Services Librarian has the opportunity to organize State Library collections and to improve cataloging services for VTLIB. This is a great chance to shape the policies and vision of the organization around cataloging and technical services.
