Welcome to the VLA Nominations and Elections Committee!
The election of officers takes place at the annual business meeting, held during the Vermont Library Conference. The Nominations and Elections committee is charged with presenting a slate of nominees (at least one per vacancy) to the Vermont Library Association at least one month prior to the election to allow time for absentee voting. Only individual members in good standing may represent VLA in an official capacity. Institutional members are not eligible to hold office. The committee is chaired by the Vice President and includes the President and one member representing each Section of the Association.

Elected Officers
Elected officers are voting members of the Board. Elections shall be considered effective on adjournment of the Association’s annual business meeting. Those elected shall serve during the executive year, except in cases where a different term is specified. The executive year begins with the adjournment of the Association’s annual business meeting and ends with the adjournment of the succeeding annual meeting.
The President-Elect shall serve one year as Vice President, followed by one year as President, followed by one year as Immediate Past President.
The Secretary and Treasurer shall serve for a period of two years or until successors are elected or appointed.
The American Library Association (ALA) Councilor shall serve for a period of three years, from the adjournment of the ALA Annual Conference to the close of the ALA Annual Conference three years later.
The New England Library Association (NELA) Representative shall serve for a period of two years.

Please note: the election of section leadership is not part of the charge of this committee. Section leaders are elected by members of their section.
