Citizens in a Connected Age Workshop

I want you all to know about upcoming workshops that the Snelling Center will offer to Vermont citizens The Citizens in a Connected Age workshops are part of the e-Vermont Community Broadband project (funded by a federal stimulus grant from the Broadband Technology Opportunity Program). The first workshop will be held on December 11 at Castleton State College.

A second workshop will be held at Lyndon State College on March 5, 2011, and on May 21 a statewide conference will be held at Vermont Technical College, entitled Citizen Leadership in a Connected Age. (Registration for these 2011 events will be available soon.)

2010 Public Library Funding & Technology Access Survey — Deadline Extended!!!!

A friendly reminder that the 2010 Public Library Funding & Technology Access Survey (sometimes called the Plinter survey)  funded by the American Library Association and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will now close on November 14 for  library participation.  Libraries participating in the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Opportunity Online Hardware Grant Program are required to participate in the survey, but all Vermont public libraries are encouraged to submit data.  The survey will close on November 14, so, although you still have time, please be sure to complete it.  So far we have about 18% participation.

Hi! I am collecting books from all around Vermont for the First Annual Great NaNoWriMo Book Drive, a fundraiser for the Office of Letters & Light. OLL provides the national support for National Novel Writing Month, ScriptFrenzy, and the Young Writer’s Program. All of these are programs that support creativity, perseverance, and a fresh relationship to writing and literature.

Library Journal has announced its annual public library budget survey – and now more than ever, it’s important to have an overall picture of what’s happening with budget trends in public libraries across the country. It is also important that Vermont libraries be included in the survey results. Library Journal will publish the results of this survey in the January 2011 issue.
