Unprecedented waves of censorship attempts continues to threaten libraries. We are deeply grateful for the commitment of VLA members, library workers everywhere, and all our supporters who are working to deliver on one of the key tenets of libraries’ core mission, ensuring access to information for all.

The American Library Association’s Office of Intellectual Freedom reported 695 attempts to censor library materials and services and documented challenges to 1,915 unique titles in 2023 — a 20% increase from 2022. Now is the time to act.

Library professionals across the country are experiencing harassment, loss of employment, and in some places, the prospect of facing criminal charges just for doing their jobs — providing materials that serve the information needs of everyone in their communities.
