Adult Services Librarian, Enfield Public Library (Enfield, NH)

Job Summary:  Reporting to the Library Director, the Adult Services Librarian’s responsibilities include adult program planning and promotion, collection development, cataloging, and readers advisory. Additional areas of focus include management and promotion of the library’s online resources, providing technology support in an instructional setting and one-on-one with patrons, outreach to community organizations, and assisting with other technology initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Continuous intellectual curiosity and self-initiated efforts to stay knowledgeable about library resources, services, and practices.
  2. Knowledge of Integrated Library Systems (ILS) including KOHA, Aspen, Overdrive, Hoopla, Kanopy.
  3. Desire to work in a busy, team-oriented collaborative environment.

Qualifications:  Master’s Degree in Library Sciences from an ALA-accredited school.  An enjoyment for working at a library serving a close-knit community.  The desire to be an integral part of a team that is striving to tailor library services to the community’s needs. The ideal candidate is flexible, positive, creative, patient, and technologically savvy and is committed to excellent patron service.

Duties:

ADULT COLLECTION:

  1. Selects adult material for purchase.
  2. Catalogs purchased materials.
  3. Manages integrity and quality of adult collections and materials.
  4. Maintains reading shelves, creates library promotional materials, and makes book displays.
  5. Systematically weeding of the collection.

PROGRAMMING:

  1. Develops both active and passive programming and library opportunities for adults. This might require the use of online platforms.
  2. Develops and implement the Adult Summer Reading Program
  3. Promotes programs and events by posting them on social media outlets, town listserv, and town newsletter.

LIBRARY/COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:

  1. Acts as the liaison to community organizations to actively promote library services and develop working community collaborations.
  2. Website design and management.
  3. Recommendation and implementation of new digital offerings, such as Wowbrary and Library Speaker’s Consortium

GENERAL DUTIES:

  1. Performs circulation desk duties including answering calls, preparing requests for curbside pickup, assistance with copier, etc.
  2. Trains staff and the public on new library technologies, online resources, and ongoing individual technology instruction for patrons.
  3. Grant writing

Accepts other duties and assignments as requested by the Library Director.

Hiring Wage Range:
$25.00-$27.00/hour based on experience, Full-time with regular evening and occasional weekend hours required.

The individual selected will have demonstrated administrative skills managing library functions through its vision, goals and strategic plan.  They will have budgeting and supervisory experience as well as advanced technology skills.  The Assistant Director/Adult Services Librarian will contribute to a safe, respectful and collaborative team culture through positive role modeling and strong communications skills.

A master’s degree in library science or related field, with three years of experience in library operations, budgeting and employee supervision is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
