Library Assistant- Youth Services Assistant
Part-time: 8 hours per week/no benefits 

Job Duties

 The Plainfield Public Libraries seeks a community-oriented, outgoing, creative, and tech-savvy individual to serve as the library’s Youth Services Assistant.

  • Under the direction of the Library Director, assist children, parents, and adults who work with children in selecting library materials through readers’ advisory where appropriate.
  • Lead children and teen program planning, and conduct programs and events as needed such as story times, summer reading programs, school visits, and special interest programs.
  • Promote literacy and provide materials that reflect the diverse interests of the community.
  • Maintain the appearance of the children’s and teen room, including the condition of the shelves, displays, and general atmosphere.
  • Assist patrons with using public computers, and personal devices as it relates to library services, and navigating the library catalog.
  • Performs Circulation Desk duties as needed including checking in/out of materials, issuing library cards, locating material in the library, using the online catalog, answering phone calls, and other circulation duties.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
