Exhibitors
The Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP), a community of earth science data professionals, including librarians, from across the federal, academic, and private sectors, is meeting in Burlington July 18 – 23, 2023. Their conference, “Opening Doors to Open Science,” includes a two-day teacher workshop on the April 8, 2024, eclipse. Several locations in northern Vermont, including Burlington and Montpelier, are in the path of totality. Information will be available at their exhibit.
The University of Vermont School Library Media Science program consists of six graduate-level courses, designed for both those with and without teacher certification. Non-educators may need additional coursework. The curriculum addresses the essential competencies for School Library Media Specialists required by the State of Vermont. Program coordinator and lecturer Deb Ehler-Hanson will be available to answer questions.
The Vermont Astronomical Society is a group of amateur astronomers with varying backgrounds and levels of experience, whose mission is to promote amateur astronomy in Vermont. In preparation for the Thursday, April 20, 2023, hybrid solar eclipse visible in Vermont, Rik Yeames of the New Hampshire Astronomical Society is offering a poster and a tour of his “eclipse mobile.” He will also describe a few of the many educational opportunities related to the eclipse.
Vermont Computer Science Teacher Association (CSTA Vermont) was established to connect computer science teachers, provide professional development, and provide local voice to the national computer science education community.
The Vermont Historical Records Program (VHRP) works to improve public access to and engagement with historical records, and to encourage and facilitate collaborative efforts among Vermont’s historical records repositories.
The Vermont State Mathematics Coalition is constituted to bring people together for the purpose of providing a statewide forum for addressing issues in mathematics and mathematics education, from kindergarten through graduate education. One of the coalition’s programs is Expanding Horizons, which provides presentations by college/university professors to high school and middle school students at no cost, either in person or via Zoom. (Many of these offerings are appropriate for a general audience, and could be a source for a stimulating library program.)
