Assistant Library Technician – Jericho Town Library (Jericho, VT)

Jericho Town Library (JTL) is excited to announce an opportunity to join our small team as an Assistant Library Technician. This is a part-time, non-benefited position with evening and weekly Saturday hours required.

Pay is $15/hour. Up to 9 hours per week.

The Assistant Library Technician will work closely with the Library Director to improve access to collections, technology, and information services while providing excellent customer support, with an emphasis on technical and operational support. This position will be responsible for coordinating interlibrary loan services, maintaining library technology and digital resources, assisting with cataloging and metadata, and managing the library website and online communications. The successful candidate will often be the only staff member on site.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for all patrons
  • Staff the circulation desk
  • Assist patrons in locating and utilizing library resources
  • Coordinate the library’s InterLibrary Loan (ILL) services, including requesting, lending, tracking, and communicating with patrons and partner libraries
  • Perform copy cataloging and original cataloging
  • Assist with catalog maintenance and bibliographic record quality
  • Maintain the library website by updating content, calendars, announcements, and service information
  • Provide technical support to patrons
  • Prepare statistics and reports related to circulation, interlibrary loan, and library services
  • Assist with grant reporting, data collection, monthly statistical reports, and annual reporting

Qualifications

  • A degree in Library and Information Science, or equivalent combination of education and library experience
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems (ILS) and online catalogs
  • Familiarity with interlibrary loan procedures and resource sharing
  • Experience with website content management systems
  • Basic understanding of cataloging standards and metadata
  • Strong technology skills and willingness to learn new systems
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff and volunteers
