Jericho Town Library is excited to announce an opportunity to join our small team as a Substitute Library Assistant. This is an on-call, non-benefitted position with no guaranteed hours.
Pay is $15/hour.
The Substitute Library Assistant will provide coverage during librarian and assistant library technician absences, including both scheduled time off and occasional short-notice shifts. The successful candidate will often be the only staff member on site. Training will be provided.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for visitors
- Assist patrons in locating and utilizing library resources
- Check materials in and out using the library circulation system
- Answer basic questions about library services and technology
- Shelve and organize library materials
- Open and close the library as assigned
- Perform light clerical and organizational tasks
Qualifications
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new technologies
- Experience with or willingness to learn to use library software
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently
- Comfortable working with children, families, and the general public
- Flexible availability, including occasional short-notice coverage
