Part-Time Library Assistant – Jericho Town Library (Jericho, VT)

Jericho Town Library (JTL) is excited to announce an opportunity to join our small team as a Library Assistant, with a special focus on coordinating programs and services in our emerging Makerspace. This is a new role at the library, and the successful candidate will help shape the Makerspace as it grows. Up to 9 hours per week, $15/hour.

As part of our mission to enrich the community and inspire lifelong learning, Jericho Town Library established the Makerspace in 2022 on the second floor of our building. A haven for creativity and innovation, the Makerspace includes art supplies, crafting materials, LEGOs, LEGO robotics, Cubelets, and a 3D printer. For most of its existence, the Makerspace has been unstaffed, and kids aged 7 to 18 have been encouraged to explore its tools and materials independently. We are looking for someone who can help us to organize the space, manage the 3d printer, and develop more structured programs for kids and adults. Prior experience with Makerspaces is NOT required, and training will be provided.

The successful candidate will also assist with traditional library operations, such as circulation, shelving, and readers’ advisory.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for visitors
  • Assist patrons in locating and utilizing library resources
  • Collaborate with other staff and community partners to develop and facilitate programming in the Makerspace
  • Manage 3D printing services
  • Create and maintain systems for keeping Makerspace materials, tools, and projects organized
  • Staff the circulation desk
  • Open and/or close the library on occasion
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Experience working with kids and/or teens
  • Enthusiasm for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) activities
  • Willingness to learn to use new technologies

This is a part-time, non-benefited position with up to 10 hours per week, which will include some evening and/or weekend hours. The schedule will be developed in coordination with the successful candidate. To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to Catherine, our library director:  catherine@jerichotownlibraryvt.org. Priority will be given to applications received before Tuesday, February 27th, 2024.

Accessibility note: JTL has served our community for more than a century, and our building is almost 200 years old. Please be advised that our historic building is not yet ADA compliant. We are working hard on an accessibility project to make sure that all members of the community can access our space, but the building is currently only accessible via staircase.
