A lively and insightful discussion of how VT libraries are extending reference service through library websites is planned for Wednesday, March 5th at Green Mountain College. The afternoon conversation will have 2 parts:
Part 1: A general discussion amongst participants of current services including:
Creation, promotion, and use of subject guides
Development and use of on-line tutorials
Promotion of freely available web resources
Promotion of the physical reference desk and print reference collection
Reaching targeted populations
Use and promotion of electronic reference collections (Credo, Oxford Reference, Encyclopedia Britannica)
Promotion of library website
Part 2: Deb Ahlers of Norwich University will talk about the use of Instant Messaging Software for virtual reference. Deb will share with the group:
The introduction and promotion of the service
Explain the day-to-day use and management of the service in including staffing and patron use.
Green Mountain College is located in Poultney, VT- 1 ½ hours away from Burlington and Bennington and 45 minutes from Middlebury.
