The Hartland Public Library is seeking a part time library assistant to provide exceptional customer service in our library serving the Upper Valley community of Hartland, VT. We’re looking for a community- focused person who has excellent attention to details. Come to Hartland and work with talented and enthusiastic colleagues; connect with and serve a supportive,  engaged community; and be the regular “Saturday” staff person (working with a rotating staff team to assist you).

Primary Duties

This part-time position in the Circulation department at Hartland Public Library includes Saturday hours.  This position performs all duties related to the circulation of library materials including assisting customers at our self-check kiosk.  Other customer services provided by this position include: answering telephone calls and emails related to account support, assisting users to place holds and providing general information about library services. This position also includes processing of incoming materials. Individuals in this position may also help with interlibrary loan, accounts payable, daily statistics, and shelve materials as needed. This position includes 5 hours every Saturday.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and one year of paid library work OR five years of equivalent experience required. Experience with library computer use, including the Internet and MS Office. Experience with Koha and Google Workspace is a plus. Must be able to learn new skills quickly and have excellent customer service skills.The successful candidate will be able to work cooperatively as a team member as well as independently. Must be able to push or pull carts; do a moderate amount of bending, squatting, lifting, stretching, and lift boxes up to 40 pounds.

Pay range – $16.50 – $18.00 depending on experience.

VLAC21 Award Winners

Every year at the annual conference, the Vermont Library Association presents five awards for outstanding service to and support of the state’s libraries. This year, we did something a little different.  Rather than ask people to nominate for our usual awards, we invited them to name their own awards. The results were entertaining and heartfelt.
