The Norwich (VT) Public Library seeks an energetic and dedicated individual interested in joining our team on a temporary basis. We are a
busy library and are looking for a passionate Youth Services Assistant to become a part of our community from August 22, 2023, until December 29, 2023. This position will focus on providing services in the Youth Services Department but will also work within other library areas as needed.

What does a typical day look like for the Youth Services Assistant?

You’ll spend the majority of your time in the youth services department doing everything from pulling books for displays to helping kids and
caregivers find the materials and information they need to checking out materials. Your day may also include shelving returned items, helping prepare materials for upcoming programs including craft preparation, straightening shelves, or assisting with programs.

One of the most important aspects of the job will be brainstorming with the Youth Services Librarian about timely, on trend ideas for displays and programs that provide learning and leisure opportunities for the Norwich community of kids from newborns through high school and their caregiver. Enjoying conversation and collaboration are a must!

As a member of the staff, you will be expected, at times, to provide service in other areas of the library.

This position is 20 hours per week & reports to the Youth Services Librarian.
Hours are Monday – Friday 1:30pm – 5:30pm. Pay scale $18.50 – $19.50/hour.

Temporary Library Specialist – Vermont Tech (Randolph Center, VT)

Sunday-Thursday 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm for the 2022 – 2023 Academic Year

BASIC FUNCTION

Assist with a full range of paraprofessional / technical support tasks related to one or more primary library functions.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and process information related to the library functions using the VSC integrated library software system and the statewide library network utility.
  • Perform processing of serials or periodicals in the automated library system; maintaining the collection and assisting users in locating and using periodicals and microforms.
  • Provide a wide range of basic reference services to patrons, referring unusual problems or requests to senior librarians.
  • Oversee or assist with circulation desk operations.
  • Assist with the supervision of student assistants, including: interviewing, hiring, training and assigning work.
  • Carry out a variety of special projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelors degree plus two to four years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.  Overall understanding of college library organization and systems, with a broad base of technical knowledge and skills related to the area(s) of specialization of the position. Relevant training/experience in use of computerized library information systems desirable.

  • Ability to deal effectively with library patrons.
  • Strong reading, writing, math, and analytical/problem-solving skills.
  • Good basic administrative, organizational and supervisory skills.

Arts & Literature Summer Camp Counselor – Lawrence Memorial Library (Bristol, VT)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Lawrence Memorial Library is seeking a counselor with a love for kids, arts and literature to work in the LML summer camp. The camp will run for 2-weeks, 9AM-3PM Monday-Friday during the week of August 9th and the week of August 16th. The camp will serve kids ages 7-11. The ideal candidate will be friendly, enthusiastic, and creative and enjoy exploring arts and literature with children.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct care of 10 children with another counselor for the duration of the day. Activities include arts and crafts, literature, games, outdoor adventure, & field trips.
  • Ability to maintain a fun and safe learning environment for all.
  • Exemplary communication and collaboration with Library Director, Children’s Librarian & Co-Counselor.
  • Assistance with planning camp programs with the support of library staff.

Temporary Part-time Library Assistant – Putney Public Library (Putney, VT)

The Putney Public Library is seeking a temporary part time library assistant to work during our expanding open hours.

Tasks include:

  • Providing in-person library services to the public.
  • Performing circulation, holds, shelving and interlibrary loan tasks.
  • Assisting with occupancy management, cleaning of high touch surfaces, and other tasks that help to provide a safe environment for staff and patrons.

Temporary Part-time Librarian – Bent Northrop Memorial Library (Fairfield, VT)
