Hours: 40 hours/week (with some evenings/weekends)

About the Library

Serving Jericho and Underhill, the Deborah Rawson Memorial Library is a vibrant community hub located next to a middle school and multiple preschools. We are currently navigating an exciting expansion project and capital campaign to better serve our patrons.

Position Summary

We are seeking a creative, organized, and enthusiastic Youth Services Librarian. You will lead programming and collection development for children and teens, fostering a joy for learning through a wide range of programs, “messy” play, and curated resources.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collection Management: Build and maintain a diverse, high-quality collection of traditional and non-traditional materials; manage weeding and placement.
  • Programming & Outreach: Design and lead summer, after-school, and weekend events. Maintain and grow partnerships with local schools, community groups, and childcare providers.
  • Communications: Create timely promotional content for social media, newsletters, and flyers.
  • Administration: Manage the youth budget and grants; track attendance for monthly board reports; participate in policy development.
  • Operations: Assist with daily library tasks, including weekly circulation desk shifts and acting as supervisor in the Director’s absence.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Youth-Centric: Deep knowledge of children’s literature and current library trends.
  • Communicator: Excellent writing and design skills for diverse audiences.
  • Adaptable: Comfortable working independently or as a team player.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficient in standard library software and social media platforms. STEM or animation experience a plus.

Education & Experience

  • Required: BA/BS in a related field, at least 2+ years of library experience, and experience working with youth.
  • Certification: Vermont Certificate of Public Librarianship (or willingness to obtain).
  • Preferred: MLIS from an ALA-accredited program.
