Overview
The Vermont Department of Libraries (VTLIB) encourages motivated and innovative librarians to apply to serve as Library Consultant for Library Governance and Management. The successful candidate will be dedicated to continuous learning, comfortable with the use of technology, and committed to collaboration. They will provide multi-level consulting, learner-centered instruction, and web and print resource development for the Department, as well as statewide leadership in the areas of library services to library directors, trustees, and library stakeholders. This job calls for a well-organized, diplomatic, and insightful leader who will represent the Department in statewide partnerships and initiatives, apply research-based planning, program development, and assessment, and use current library trends to advance local library services.
Major duties include the following: professional development instruction for Vermont public library leaders and trustees; collaboration with partner organizations and state agencies on issues related to public libraries, including: policy development and trainings; consulting in several areas, including the following: municipal and non-profit operations and management, budgets and finance, staffing and personnel management, strategic planning, advocacy and community relations, library boards, and library legal issues; serving as a lead in conference planning for library trustees and friends; and creating live/recorded training and web-based content for consultations and trainings of library staff, trustees, and stakeholders.

The Department of Libraries is based in Barre, Vermont, located about 50 miles southeast of Burlington. Vermont has 183 public libraries, most of which serve small and rural communities with populations of fewer than 5,000.
