Head of Youth Services Assistant Librarian – Town of Essex (Essex, VT)

The Town of Essex, Vermont is seeking a Head of Youth Services Assistant Librarian to manage the youth department and children’s area while performing creative work in support of the operation of the Essex Free Library. The position directs youth library programs, and selects and maintains materials for the Children’s and Young Adult collections. Duties also include the cataloging of all youth materials, management of specific reports, community outreach, publicity, and direct service work in support of the operation of the library, as well as all other related work as required.

This position works under the direction of the Library Director and works in accordance with all town policies. This position works approximately 40 hours per week to include one evening and every other Saturday. Hours will be divided between two circulation desks.

MLS/MLIS degree is required. Prior library experience is required. Candidates must be proficient with computers and technology and have experience with web platforms and social media. Candidates must be familiar with both adult and juvenile literature and be comfortable with providing reader’s advisory to patrons, particularly children. Candidates must possess considerable knowledge of the needs and abilities of children and the available library materials and services.

The minimum starting salary for this full-time position is $20.18 per hour with the actual starting salary dependent on experience and education. Part-time Library Assistant – Highgate Library and Community Center (Highgate, VT).

The Highgate Library and Community Center is looking to hire a part-time (10-15 hours a week) Library Assistant. The Library Assistant will perform a broad range of tasks including, but not limited to, the following: assisting with program planning and facilitation, library circulation and clerical procedures, and daily tasks assigned by the Highgate Library and Community Center (HLCC) Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • A high school education is required with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Library Assistant III – Hartland Public Library (Hartland, VT)

PRIMARY DUTIES

This part-time position in the Circulation department at Hartland Public Library includes one evening and every Saturday hours (hours may be adjusted during the Covid-19 pandemic).  This position performs all duties related to the circulation of library materials including providing curbside delivery and assisting customers at our self-check kiosk.  Other customer services provided by this position include answering telephone calls and emails related to account support, assisting customers to place holds and providing general information about library services.  Individuals in this position may also help with interlibrary loan, accounts payable, daily statistics, and shelve materials as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and one year of paid library work OR five years of equivalent experience required. Experience with library computer use, including the Internet and MS Office. Experience with G-suite a plus. Must be able to learn new skills quickly and have excellent customer service skills. The successful candidate will be able to work cooperatively as a team member as well as independently. Must be able to push or pull carts; do a moderate amount of bending, squatting, lifting, stretching, and lift boxes up to 40 pounds.  Curbside delivery requires the ability to work outdoors for brief periods of time year-round.  All library staff are required to wear masks when serving customers and when they are unable to safely distance from coworkers.
