OVERVIEW

The Manchester Community Library (MCL), the modern offspring of the town’s Mark Skinner Library, founded in 1897, seeks a creative and inspiring Executive Director to lead the organization to the next level in its never-ending quest to simultaneously be a 21st century library and a community hub for residents of Manchester, Vermont, and surrounding towns in Bennington County.

Reporting to the 13-member Board of Trustees, the new Executive Director will lead a staff of 10 augmented by a corps of volunteers that will provide patrons with a broad mix of services and programs within its 18,500 square foot building that opened in 2014. In the last fiscal year, MCL attracted over 58,000 visitors and conducted over 1,000 programs.

Key responsibilities include the administration and operations of the Library, staff and Board management, oversight of all fundraising, marketing and public relations, and advocacy for the Library and general outreach to residents, patrons and town office holders.

The operating budget for the Library is roughly $1 million, with revenue streams provided by an appropriation from the town of Manchester approved each year by its taxpayers (26.1% of revenues), endowment income (17.2%), and philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and other sources (56.7%).

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Executive Director is responsible for management oversight of the organization including design and implementation of all fundraising and development activities, supervising all staff, and working collaboratively with the Board of Trustees to ensure the financial integrity and accountability of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director must possess the following attributes and experiences:

Description:
The Abbott Library located in Sunapee NH, a small New England town that enjoys proximity to Lake Sunapee and Mount Sunapee, is seeking an innovative, energetic, experienced and future-ready library professional to provide leadership to its vibrant community library. The Director will oversee a staff of thirteen employees (6 FTE equivalent). This staff includes a full-time Assistant Director, Technology, Youth and Children’s Librarian, and Public Services Librarian as well as several part-time staff. In addition, the library enjoys the support of more than 1300 hours of volunteer service each year. The Director is also responsible for administration, management, (including fiscal oversight) and advocacy for the library. The ideal candidate is a strategic problem solver who is flexible, positive, creative, patient, decisive, and technologically adroit. Additionally, the ideal candidate has demonstrated success aligning people, process and technology;
excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and customer relationship skills; and is committed to outstanding patron service. A finely tuned sense of humor is not required but highly desirable.

The library serves a community of approximately 3400 year-round residents and a large seasonal community. It operates with an annual budget of $600,000. The construction of the library building was completed in 2014, and it offers meeting rooms for library and community use, a fireplace, comfortable seating, and a beautiful view of Mount Sunapee.

The Director will work closely with the Board of Trustees, the Friends of the Library and the Abbott Library Foundation to raise funds and advocate for the library. In past years, these organizations have contributed approximately $50,000 annually in additional funding for the library.

The salary for this position is $75,600 – 109,304 with an excellent benefits package including health and dental insurance, short-term and long-term disability and participation in the New Hampshire Retirement System.

Library Director – Grand Isle Free Library (Grand Isle, VT)

Library Director – Maxfield Public Library (Loudon, NH)

The Maxfield Public Library is seeking a new Library Director who is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, professional, and possesses excellent leadership skills.

Requirements: 

A Bachelor’s Degree is required, with at least three years library or equivalent experience.  A Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited institution is preferred. Library Director – Sterling College’s Brown Library (Craftsbury Common, VT)

Overview 

The Library Director is the primary librarian for Sterling College’s Brown Library. The Director manages the library collections, oversees the library facility, and supervises student Library Assistants in the Work Program. The Library Director reports to the Dean of Academics.

  • Services: Assist and instruct library patrons in accessing and using print and electronic resources, and library equipment. Support circulation services and provide interlibrary loan for additional books and articles.
  • Library & Research Instruction: Conduct library orientations for new students and faculty and support use of library resources by classes upon request. Work individually with students and faculty on research needs.
  • DEI Culture: Support the advancement of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility efforts at the library, making positive contributions to a culture of inclusion and respect.
  • Work Program: Participate in the Work College program as a supervisor of 2 to 3 Library Assistant students.
  • Committees & Councils: Participate in Faculty Council as an ex officio member, and other faculty teams, committees, and task forces as necessary.
  • Professional Development: Maintain relevant and current knowledge of library best practices through professional development and attendance at conferences and workshops. Participate in organizations such as the Vermont Consortium of Academic Libraries (VCAL) and the Vermont Library Association (VLA). Attend required college-wide professional development.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in either Library Science/Information Science, or in a subject relating to Sterling College’s curriculum,
  • Previous experience in librarianship and commitment to pursuing professional development in library studies and information science.
  • Commitment to the Sterling mission of ecological thinking and action
  • Demonstrated commitment to pedagogy that integrates multicultural perspectives in the curriculum and promotes inclusion in the classroom
  • Strong IT skills and experience with the use of digital resources to support student learning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills, including financial and statistical record-keeping techniques

Preferred Qualifications 

  • MLS in Library Science or related field
  • Experience with Koha, Interlibrary Loan, and other integrated library systems
  • Experience with adoption of new technologies to support greater access to library resources and other learning assets.

This is a half-time, exempt, at-will position, with a projected annual salary of $24,000 – $26,000, based on experience. Benefits include:
