Temporary Part-time Library Assistant – Putney Public Library (Putney, VT)

The Putney Public Library is seeking a temporary part time library assistant to work during our expanding open hours.

Tasks include:

  • Providing in-person library services to the public.
  • Performing circulation, holds, shelving and interlibrary loan tasks.
  • Assisting with occupancy management, cleaning of high touch surfaces, and other tasks that help to provide a safe environment for staff and patrons.

Requirements include:

  • Completion of VOSHA training (which will be provided)
  • Maintaining COVID safety protocols including wearing a mask while in the presence of other staff and patrons.
  • Prior library experience and/or experience working directly with the public, including children.
  • Basic knowledge of library procedures, methods, and techniques
  • Exceptional communication skills when interacting with patrons in-person or over the phone

Preference will be given to candidates that have experience with the KOHA integrated library system, especially the Catamount Library Consortium’s version.

This position’s schedule is:

  • Saturdays from 9:45am-3pm
  • Mondays from 9:45am-2pm
  • Substitute hours as needed.

This position may expand to include Tuesdays and Thursdays and up to 18 hours per week.

PRIMARY DUTIES

This part-time position in the Circulation department at Hartland Public Library includes one evening and every Saturday hours (hours may be adjusted during the Covid-19 pandemic).  This position performs all duties related to the circulation of library materials including providing curbside delivery and assisting customers at our self-check kiosk.  Other customer services provided by this position include answering telephone calls and emails related to account support, assisting customers to place holds and providing general information about library services.  Individuals in this position may also help with interlibrary loan, accounts payable, daily statistics, and shelve materials as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and one year of paid library work OR five years of equivalent experience required. Experience with library computer use, including the Internet and MS Office. Experience with G-suite a plus. Must be able to learn new skills quickly and have excellent customer service skills. The successful candidate will be able to work cooperatively as a team member as well as independently. Must be able to push or pull carts; do a moderate amount of bending, squatting, lifting, stretching, and lift boxes up to 40 pounds.  Curbside delivery requires the ability to work outdoors for brief periods of time year-round.  All library staff are required to wear masks when serving customers and when they are unable to safely distance from coworkers.
