Electronic Resources and Systems Management Librarian – Vermont State Colleges System (VT/hybrid/remote)

BASIC FUNCTION

The Electronic Resources and Systems Management Librarian monitors and supports all library systems operations, including the integrated library system and other electronic systems and products. In addition, this position provides leadership in the acquisition and management of licensed and subscribed content for discovery and access. ERSML will successfully manage operations for acquiring, licensing, and accessing, all electronic resources and serials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the full life cycle of library electronic resources and serials including maintaining relationships with vendors, setting up trials, negotiating licenses and subscription costs for electronic resources and serials, creating purchase orders for new and/or recurring databases and serials, submitting invoices for payment, listing resources on the library website, setting up and troubleshooting off-campus access, system administration for several database platforms, and generating statistical data on library database usage.
  • Manage and support the libraries’ discovery layer (EBSCO Discovery Service – EDS), link resolver (EBSCO Full-Text Finder – FTF), and single-sign-on authentication system (Open Athens). Maintain database packages, update configurations and interfaces, and work with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve discovery and access issues (e.g., holdings issues or full-text linking problems.)
  • Manage integrated library system (Koha) and make all system changes or upgrades to authorized values, parameters, and global system preferences including circulation rules. Create reports and monitor regular record ingestions/deletions from Koha to the discovery layer (EDS).
  • Serve as system administrator for the library’s interlibrary loan platform (Tipasa) and provide backup for interlibrary loan processing one day a week and on an as-needed basis.
  • Participate fully in library assessment projects.
  • Communicate information regarding collection management recommendations and decisions to liaison librarians and staff.
  • Collaborate with VSCS System IT and local campus IT to facilitate seamless access to library digital resources.
  • Maintain understanding and current knowledge of developments in the field of librarianship.
  • Serve on institutional and regional committees, and in other capacities. Regularly, take part in professional development activities.
  • Represents the library at state, regional, or national meetings and conferences as assigned.
  • Serves as liaison to one academic department with responsibility for outreach, instruction, research consultation, collection development, and development of learning materials.
  • Develops and maintains library guides and other online self‐directed learning materials for unit and outreach areas.
  • Participates in reference services, including in‐person, phone, chat reference, and on‐call.
  • Performs related duties and functions as assigned.

  • No supervision of staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 1-3 years of public service and/or technical library experience or equivalent combination
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems, database management, content management systems (e.g. Springshare products), common operating systems, and multimedia training tools.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in an academic library.
  • Knowledge of acquisition processes related to electronic resources, and familiarity with selection, budgeting, vendors, and content providers.
  • Knowledge of evaluation, assessment, and planning methods and strategies related to electronic resources and other systems, including compiling, and managing usage statistics.
  • Commitment to developing own professional knowledge regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice and how it informs practices within area of expertise
  • Excellent organization and follow-through skills to ensure achievement of objectives within established timeframes, working independently and as a member of a team.

POSITION SUMMARY

GOBI Library Solutions is seeking an experienced technical services librarian who will provide expert support for GOBI technical services and workflow solutions. The position manages a unit of ten FTE, supports and promotes communication among many GOBI work units, consults with customers and team members across units to resolve service and system integration concerns, serves as a technical services subject matter expert (SME) for software development, documents internal implementation support best practices, procedures, and system details, and creates customer-facing documentation to support sales.
