VLA/VSLA Joint Conference Call for Proposals

Let’s celebrate! The Vermont Library Association (VLA) and the Vermont School Library Association (VSLA) are pleased to announce their joint sponsorship of a one-day conference in 2023, and we need YOU!

We are seeking presenters for:

“Be the Place: Libraries Are For Everyone!”

The conference will be held at Doubletree by Hilton in South Burlington on Monday, April 3, 2023. Proposals are due by Friday, Jan. 13, 2023. 

We are looking for presenters for a wide variety of sessions.

Some ideas include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

    • Equitable access to library services/resources

  • Programming

    • Activities for patrons

    • Reaching new patrons

    • Engaging reluctant readers

  • Intellectual Freedom

    • Banned books

    • Book challenges

    • Embracing graphic novels

  • Assessing community needs

  • Addressing literacy needs (financial, media, digital, reading & writing)

  • Technology in libraries

  • Community outreach

    • Collaboration among libraries or communities – joint projects

    • Working with local bookstores

  • New innovations post-pandemic

Session types may include both 50 minute and 90-minute sessions:

  • Hands-on workshop with an activity / discussion.

  • Panel with best practices / case studies

  • Keynote or “featured” speaker

  • Author talk with reading

  • Vendor presentations

  • Book Awards and VLA Awards

We are also hoping to include:

  • Ignite Talks – “Lightning Round” – Five Minutes of Fame

  • Poster Session

Please submit your proposal by January 13, 2023, online using this form. If your proposal is accepted, the main presenter will receive free admission to the conference.
