Collections Manager – Waterbury Historical Society (Waterbury, VT)

The Waterbury Historical Society seeks a part-time collections manager to catalog and maintain its collection of artifacts, photographs, historical documents, and other items.

The Collections Manager is a contracted employee of the Town of Waterbury at a rate of $20.00 per hour, for a maximum of 20 hours per week.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Oversee the organization, cataloging, and storage of all current and new items in the collection according to industry best practices, under the guidance of the Board of Directors.
  • Supervise cataloguers, and general volunteers in the record-keeping, organization, and care of the collection.
  • Collaborate with and advise the Accession/Deaccession Committee to recommend to the Board of Directors items to be accepted or removed from the collection, in keeping with approved policies.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for deeds of gift, loans of collection items, and hosting of temporary exhibits.
  • Work closely with the curator to refresh exhibits and provide guided tours on an appointment basis.
  • Attend monthly board meetings and report to the Board of Directors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong research, interpretive, and writing skills.
  • Passion for history and enthusiasm for sharing that history with the community.
  • Knowledge of and comfort with computer technology for online searches, document creation and management, photographing, scanning, and uploading.
  • Willingness to learn.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in using PastPerfect or similar digital archival industry standard platform.
  • Knowledge of Vermont/Waterbury history.
