Library Director – Sterling College’s Brown Library (Craftsbury Common, VT)
Overview
The Library Director is the primary librarian for Sterling College’s Brown Library. The Director manages the library collections, oversees the library facility, and supervises student Library Assistants in the Work Program. The Library Director reports to the Dean of Academics.
This position is a part-time role (0.5 FTE), with specific working hours flexible and negotiable but required to meet the needs of the college. Start date is as soon as possible.
Position Responsibilities
- Collection Development: Evaluate, purchase, and catalog print and digital resources, accepting recommendations and requests from faculty and students.
- Systems Management: Manage Koha, an integrated library system, and EZproxy, a web proxy server. Work with CLOVER, the statewide interlibrary loan system. Contribute to updates of the library’s website.
- Budget: Prepare and manage an annual library budget.
- Reports & Evaluation: Submit an annual report for the library. Analyze statistics and database usage reports.
- Services: Assist and instruct library patrons in accessing and using print and electronic resources, and library equipment. Support circulation services and provide interlibrary loan for additional books and articles.
- Library & Research Instruction: Conduct library orientations for new students and faculty and support use of library resources by classes upon request. Work individually with students and faculty on research needs.
- DEI Culture: Support the advancement of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility efforts at the library, making positive contributions to a culture of inclusion and respect.
- Work Program: Participate in the Work College program as a supervisor of 2 to 3 Library Assistant students.
- Committees & Councils: Participate in Faculty Council as an ex officio member, and other faculty teams, committees, and task forces as necessary.
- Professional Development: Maintain relevant and current knowledge of library best practices through professional development and attendance at conferences and workshops. Participate in organizations such as the Vermont Consortium of Academic Libraries (VCAL) and the Vermont Library Association (VLA). Attend required college-wide professional development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in either Library Science/Information Science, or in a subject relating to Sterling College’s curriculum,
- Previous experience in librarianship and commitment to pursuing professional development in library studies and information science.
- Commitment to the Sterling mission of ecological thinking and action
- Demonstrated commitment to pedagogy that integrates multicultural perspectives in the curriculum and promotes inclusion in the classroom
- Strong IT skills and experience with the use of digital resources to support student learning
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills, including financial and statistical record-keeping techniques
Preferred Qualifications
- MLS in Library Science or related field
- Experience with Koha, Interlibrary Loan, and other integrated library systems
- Experience with adoption of new technologies to support greater access to library resources and other learning assets.

This is a half-time, exempt, at-will position, with a projected annual salary of $24,000 – $26,000, based on experience. Benefits include:

Director – Pawlet Public Library (Pawlet, VT)

Circulation Library Assistant – Whiting Library (Chester, VT)
SUMMARY
The Library Assistant assists the Library Director and Youth Services Librarian with the library’s day-to-day operations, including Circulation Services, Technical Services, and Public Services. This position is part-time (16-20 hours) and includes a Saturday shift. The starting pay range is $16 to $17 an hour. SUPERVISION

RESPONSIBILITY AND DUTIES
- Circulation Services
- Serves as the public’s first contact upon entering the library and acquaints guests with resources.
- Performs all aspects of automated circulation, including checking out and renewing. Searches the catalog for materials requested by patrons and informs patrons of their arrivals.
- Provides information, instruction, and assistance to library patrons on library programs, procedures, and policies; responds to all requests, inquiries, and complaints, referring patrons to other departments as appropriate.
- Assist patrons in using the copy machine and other equipment and responding to equipment problems.
- Accepts membership applications and issues library cards
- Notifies patrons of overdue materials
- Receives payments for fines, fees, sales, and donations
- Offers readers’ advisor and reference services
- Collects and compiles circulation statistics for monthly reports
- Assists in training volunteers and new staff members
- Complies with policies and procedures
- Alerts the Library Director when changes in policies and procedures are needed
- Technical Services:
- Maintains displays and shelving locations of library materials.
- Repairs print and non-print materials.
- Creates documents and publicity materials.
- Receives interlibrary loan materials.
- Packages and returns outgoing interlibrary loan materials.
- Processing withdrawn materials.
- Other Duties as requested or assigned, but not limited to:
- Assists in the maintenance and safety of the library building and grounds as necessary.
- Assists with programs, exhibits, activities, and events.
- Attends meetings and workshops.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A high school diploma is required; a college degree and relevant work experience are preferred. The required abilities are computer skills, customer service skills, dependability, friendliness, willingness to learn new skills, patience, and the ability to work with the public. A knowledge of library automation systems is preferred.
Applicants must be able to stand for long periods, and the position involves pushing, pulling, and lifting loads. The ability to lift 50 pounds is preferred.

Youth Services Assistant – Plainfield Public Libraries (Plainfield, NH)

Job Duties
The Plainfield Public Libraries seeks a community-oriented, outgoing, creative, and tech-savvy individual to serve as the library’s Youth Services Assistant.
- Under the direction of the Library Director, assist children, parents, and adults who work with children in selecting library materials through readers’ advisory where appropriate.
- Lead children and teen program planning, and conduct programs and events as needed such as story times, summer reading programs, school visits, and special interest programs.
- Promote literacy and provide materials that reflect the diverse interests of the community.

The Essex Free Library is receiving applications for temporary employment for an Assistant Librarian of Interlibrary Loans and Patron Services.
This role is Temporary and is anticipated to last for approximately 8 weeks. Part-time Circulation Desk Assistant- Rutland Free Library (Rutland, VT)
Rutland Free Library is looking for a Circulation Assistant. The position will be part time (15 hours per week to start). Expect flexible hours including some evening and weekend work. Most weeks this will entail shifts on two or three days.

Library Circulation Assistant I – Essex Free Library (Essex, VT)
The Town of Essex is receiving applications for a part-time position as a Library Circulation Assistant for the Essex Free Library.
Under the direct supervision of the Library Director, the Library Circulation Assistant I provides support at the circulation desk for both library patrons and staff, and contributes to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the library.
This position’s hours alternate between 3 hours per week and 8 hours per week, for a weekly average of 5.5 hours. Hours include every Tuesday evening from 5-8, and every other Saturday from 9-2. There is the opportunity for this candidate to pick up additional hours as needed and available.
