Library Assistant – Cavendish Fletcher Community Library (Cavendish, VT)

The Cavendish Library is a unique municipal library that operates as a library for the Town of Cavendish community and a part-time school library for the Cavendish Town Elementary School.

Cavendish is a small rural town with a population of 1,400 located on Route 131 twenty miles from Claremont, New Hampshire, and three miles from Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow, Vermont.  The Cavendish Town Elementary is a K-6 school with 80 students and is attached to the library.

Responsibilities:

  • Present a welcoming attitude to all patrons in a non-judgmental and respectful manner.
  • Assist/advise people on how to locate library materials and how to use the library computers and online resources.
  • Set up new patrons, check items in and out via computer.
  • Use of discretion regarding patron privacy.
  • Process and maintain the library materials.
  • Organize and reshelve returned items.
  • Collaborate with librarian in using various social media platforms to promote library activities/programs to the public.
  • Support librarian and participate in various library events.
  • Examine material on shelves to verify accuracy of placement.
  • Identify material in need of repair/replacement.

Other Skills and Experience: 

Familiarity with computers (google suite and website maintenance), clerical skills, interpersonal and phone skills, ability to communicate clearly.

Required:

  • High school diploma.
  • Background check.

Preferred:

  • Library experience.
  • Experience working with children and working in a school environment.

Salary Range:
