Library Assistant III – Hartland Public Library (Hartland, VT)

Part-time 14 hours a week, including Saturdays and one evening. (Hours may be adjusted during the Covid-19 pandemic.)

PRIMARY DUTIES

This part-time position in the Circulation department at Hartland Public Library includes one evening and every Saturday hours (hours may be adjusted during the Covid-19 pandemic).  This position performs all duties related to the circulation of library materials including providing curbside delivery and assisting customers at our self-check kiosk.  Other customer services provided by this position include answering telephone calls and emails related to account support, assisting customers to place holds and providing general information about library services.  Individuals in this position may also help with interlibrary loan, accounts payable, daily statistics, and shelve materials as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and one year of paid library work OR five years of equivalent experience required. Experience with library computer use, including the Internet and MS Office. Experience with G-suite a plus. Must be able to learn new skills quickly and have excellent customer service skills. The successful candidate will be able to work cooperatively as a team member as well as independently. Must be able to push or pull carts; do a moderate amount of bending, squatting, lifting, stretching, and lift boxes up to 40 pounds.  Curbside delivery requires the ability to work outdoors for brief periods of time year-round.  All library staff are required to wear masks when serving customers and when they are unable to safely distance from coworkers.

Library Assistant/Paraeducator – Burlington High School (Burlington, VT)

The Burlington High School Library seeks a creative, self motivated individual to assist students and staff in an active 21st century library.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Circulation tasks, cataloging, shelving, inter library loans

  • Collection maintenance

  • Creating displays, and interactive programming

  • Helping students with research, finding books.

  • Assisting students and staff with technology needs.

  • Some ordering.

  • Being the substitute when the librarian is absent.

  • Student supervision and behavior management.

  • Physical responsibilities include lifting, carrying, and the ability to assess a situation and respond quickly.

QUALIFICATIONS include but not limited to:

  • High school diploma plus at least 2 years of additional education

  • Minimum of two years experience in education or related field

  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with students, parents and school staff.

  • Previous library experience preferred.

SALARY:

As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Paraeducators of the Burlington School District.
